Robert writes, "Part of the challenge of the half mile hike to reach the observation tower is finding parking. The wait time to snag a spot can get lengthy during the busiest time of the day.
At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi. (Pic taken will cell phone.)"

Mystery - is it a rock or fossilized dinosaur egg?

Brother Bill Davenport asked his creative daughter-in-law Cayce to send photos of this mystery he found in hopes that sharing it on Columbia Magazine might bring out possible geology enthusiasts to identify it.
The image is a compilation of different angles of the rock (or fossilized dinosaur egg?), as well as the inside where it has split half (top right). He highlighted a "shadow shape" found in the center to make it more clear in the photo. Comments | Permalink
