October 8-14, 2023 will be the annual Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association week. A proclamation has been signed in Russell County putting a spotlight on the works done by the 60 members of the Russell County Extension Homemakers who completed more than 2,852 hours of volunteer service in 2022-2023. Butterfly hiding in plain sight

I think this might be a question mark butterfly (Polygonia interrogationis), spotted along the Habitrek Trail at the Salato Wildlife Education Center just outside of Frankfort. From a distance, he blended perfectly with the mix of green and browning leaves along the trail. Wikipedia says, "The color and textured appearance of the underside of its wings combine to provide camouflage that resembles a dead leaf." Comments | Permalink
