Stapelia Grandiflora flower now blooming and stinking

2025-09-11 - Taylor County, KY - Photo by Bill Collins
Campbellsville contributor and grandfather of singer Collin White, Bill Collins, writes, “This is a Stapelia Grandiflora before and after full bloom. My son who loves such things gave it to us on Father’s Day. The bloom stinks like rotting meat and flies blow it. I don’t know what that says about our son’s relationship with us.”

Close Enough, Papa!

2025-09-11 - Cane Valley, KY - Photo by Robert Ellis, robertelliswoodworking.com
Robert writes, "The last few times my grandson visited, we check up on the status of my resident 'garden spider'. In doing so, I'm attempting to teach my grandson Sawyer that spiders are our friends. 'Sally', (he helped choose the name) resides on the backside of my woodworking shop. Sawyer's warming up to the notion that spiders can be friendly...but still wants to maintain a safe distance."
