The interior of Mainz Cathedral in Mainz, Germany. Veronica writes, "Mainz Cathedral is catholic cathedral which has undergone many renovations showing Romanesque (original), Gothic (chapels and bell towers), and Baroque (roof) architecture. Of course over time, wars and fires have damaged this church, but the church keeps fixing and trying to restore that which was destroyed."

Travel: Mainz Cathedral

2024-12-03 - Mainz, Germany - Photo by Veronica Arnold
The Mainz Cathedral on a cold, foggy afternoon. Wikipedia says that the historic Mainz Cathedral or St. Martin's Cathedral (German: Mainzer Dom, Martinsdom or, officially, Der Hohe Dom zu Mainz) is located near the historical center and pedestrianized market square of the city of Mainz, Germany. This 1000-year-old Roman Catholic cathedral is the site of the episcopal see of the Bishop of Mainz."

Veronica said of their visit, "Besides a cool looking building, this church was a welcome visit to get out of the cold for a while... thankful that all across Europe, often you can step inside churches to get a quick respite from the weather."
