Food for squirrels on the ground

2025-10-11 - Central Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com
I'm always happy for the squirrels when I see acorns on the ground and know they don't have to climb for them. This variety is a mystery to me with the fringe at the top of the acorn. It would make great tiny doll faces for crafting. If a reader has the answer please click 'comment' below and share your knowledge?

Thanks to Billy Joe Fudge we now know this fuzzy topped acorn comes from a Bur Oak tree.
