A perfect celebration of Downtown Days 2025 was followed by a perfect cleanup and return to business around the Public Square in Columbia last weekend after the crowds were gone. By the end of the day Sunday all the littler had been removed, thanks to our city employees. Thanks to all involved in hosting and visiting!

Travel: Trail to Mount Rogers

2025-10-15 - Grayson Highlands State Park, Mouth of Wilson, VA - Photo by Graham Waggener
The Appalachian Trail passes through Grayson Highlands State Park on the way to Mount Rogers, the highest natural point in Virginia. Most of the mountain is contained within the Lewis Fork Wilderness, while the entire area is part of the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, which itself is a part of the Jefferson National Forest.

The summit is most easily accessed from Grayson Highlands State Park by following the Appalachian Trail southbound for 3.5 mi (5.6 km) to a blue-blazed trail leading to the summit, which is covered by trees and marked with four National Geodetic Survey triangulation station disks.
