Kentucky Color: Stare Down
2026-07-14 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge
Billy Joe writes, "Mr or Ms Tree Frog and I found ourselves eye to eye in an ol' fashion stare down! I must admit that, I lost! Not only did I lose, I lost badly! Following an extended post stare down observation period, I was left with an overarching question, 'do tree frogs even blink!?'
This is either an Eastern Gray Tree Frog or a Cope's Gray Tree Frog. Both the Eastern and Cope's are identical in every physical way with the exception of their croaking accent.
Sorry I was unable to identify the species. Not only did Mr or Ms Tree Frog not blink, he or she never spoke!" Comments | Permalink Remembering Man O War

Pam Capozziello writes, "I came across this old photo of Man O War while grazing at his home at Faraway Farm in Lexington and it just blew me away! Look at the size of that horse, he looked nothing close to today's thoroughbreds!
The muscle he had was just mind-blowing. The breeding of today's horses really need to look back in history and understand that horses back then were built for endurance, ate the proper food and hay mixture to help build stronger bones and not the skinny boned horses that are now bred to run in our Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown races. I wish we could go back in time like in a time capsule so we could all enjoy the races that real horses ran, like with Man O War and Seabiscuit. I would have loved to have seen both of these phenomenal horses!" Comments | Permalink Birds of Kentucky: Gray Catbird
