A Great Spangled Fritillary, spotted on a stalk of early-blooming milkweed this weekend. According to the butterfliesandmoths.org entry for Speyeria cybele, they feed on "nectar from many species of flowers including milkweeds, thistles, ironweed, dogbane, mountain laurel, verbena, vetch, bergamot, red clover, joe-pye weed, and purple coneflower." Josh Dicken and his 9-year-old daughter Ava Dicken show off the fish they caught at the Crappie Masters Kentucky Club State Championship on May 21 and 22, 2021 at Taylorsville Lake. The duo had a weight of 14.79 lbs over the two-day tournament, putting them in 1st place for the State Classic, and qualifying the team for the Crappie Masters National Championship.
