2021-09-27 - Adair County, KY - Photo Marsha Shirley
Granddaughter Marsha Shirley writes, "My sweet Grandpa will be celebrating his 95th birthday Tuesday, September 28, 2021. He is a pretty amazing 95 year old. He still likes to get out and check on his cattle and continues to help with hay crops every year. He is definitely an inspiration to his family!"

This is to report the theft of Pawpaws

2021-09-27 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com
There was this wonderful clump of Pawpaws getting ready to ripen on the little tree in the yard. I celebrated the discovery with this picture. Two weeks afterward, they were gone with no evidence of them ever having been there at all.

Thanks to good friend Jackie Montgomery I have tasted this season's unique custardy Pawpaw fruit even though it didn't come from my yard. She bought the last selection of them from Donna Jones at the Farmers Market.

As we enjoyed the Pawpaws, we discussed the proper pronunciation -- is it pa pa, like a grandfather? Is it pow pow like gun shots? Or is it paw paw, like cat's feet? No evidence of what happened to the ones on the tree. They'd simply disappeared, possibly at the hands of a hungry animal. We may never know.

2021-09-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Shanna Darnell
Adair County High School College and Career Counselor Shanna Darnell writes, "The ACHS Class of 2022 had an amazing College Application Day! Over 66% of seniors applied to at least one college. Students and staff wore their favorite college attire, door prizes were given away and students received assistance from counselors and local college and KHEAA representatives to help make the process less intimidating and smoother for all. It was a great day!" Pictured are Kaitlyn Akin, Kaylie Doss, Emily Bivens and Halle Burton.
