Downtown Days 2021: the only motorized vehicle

Wouldn't it be a good decision to make the Public Square more of a walking mall like Janice Holt Giles once proposed, having free parking in the four areas off the Square? It worked well during Downtown Days, every city parking lot was filled and seemed to have handled the crowds well. Vendors had specific load/unload hours and then the Square was closed to vehicles. The alleys around the Square took the vehicles to their destinations with a little guidance from law enforcement. It was so good to be able to watch the little train delivering families from one side of town to the other, and to see so many people strolling around the old Courthouse, booth and window shopping and dining. It was the one time that fear of getting run over didn't have to hamper shoppers and visitors. Comments | Permalink Downtown Days 2021: Miss MacKenzie Bennett
