Veterans banners being sold by City Hall

Ronnie Holt with the VFW in Columbia holds up the first example of the new Veterans banner for downtown light poles. There will be eight banners available, one veteran on each, according to Mayor Pam Hoots, at a cost of $100.00 each. After a period of time the flag will be returned to the sponsor. They will be available at City Hall on a first come, first served basis.

Information you will need to supply at the time of purchase: Name and Picture of Veteran, branch of service, years they served, sponsor's name and phone number. For more information please contact City Hall at 270-384-2501.

January 13, 2022 LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief

Of today's 258 reported cases, 209 (81%) were unvaccinated and 57 of today's cases (22%) were in individuals 18 years of age or younger.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 27.77%. Deaths: We regret we must report 2 new deaths since our last report. We have experienced a total of 823 deaths. Tonight's deaths include a McCreary County resident (unvaccinated) and a Taylor County resident (partially vaccinated). Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families and friends who have lost loved ones.

Hospitalizations: We presently have 89 cases in the hospital. This is 2 more than what we reported in our last report. We have had a total of 1,891 hospitalizations, resulting in a 4% hospitalzation rate (about 1 in 25) among known cases. The state hospitalization rate is 3.7%. The latest data shows that 98.15% of Lake Cumberland's ICU beds are filled, and 33.8% of ventilator capacity is being utilized.

Columbia Police Officers getting body cameras

Mayor Pam Hoots honored the Columbia Police Department this week as she and Chief JR Murphy announced the addition of body cameras. A new officer, Holly Necessary, is also joining the force.
