KY General Fund and Road Fund receipts for February 2026 Frankfort, KY - The Office of State Budget Director reported on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, that February's General Fund receipts declined 0.6 percent compared to February of last year. Collections for the month were $970.8 million while General Fund revenues for February 2025 were $977.1 million. Receipts have fallen 1.1 percent through the first eight months of FY26. The official CFG estimate calls for a 1.3 percent decline in revenues for the current fiscal year. To meet the official revenue estimate, receipts can decline 1.7 percent over the last four months of the fiscal year and still meet the estimate. State Budget Director John Hicks remarked that "the withholding component of the individual income tax plus the sales tax combined to generate $864.2 million of the $970.8 million in General Fund revenue, or 89 percent of the February total. The withholding component fell by only 2.6 percent despite the 12.5 percent reduction in the income tax rate effective last month. That is due in part to the filing schedule for some businesses that results in a February deposit of some of their withholding taxes from December at the higher 4 percent tax rate. Income tax refund amounts and the number of returns requesting refunds in February were higher than last year. The sales tax continues to be stable, rising 3.3 percent in February and up 4.8 percent for the year." A passenger in the Forester, Angelo Forsee, 20, of Russell Springs, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries. Two other passengers in the Forester, Adrian Crew, 32, of Columbia, and Jacob Mann, 28, of Russell Springs, were transported to the TJ Sampson Hospital for treatment of injuries. A week to serve and remember for LWU Residence Life staff By Duane Bonifer Lindsey Wilson University's Madyson Jones '25 said she was not looking forward to a spring break service trip to New York City, even though she had planned it. But after experiencing the Lindsey Wilson residence life tradition for the first time, the Elizabethtown native said she quickly understood the significance of the trip. "To be frank, I was dreading going on the trip," said Jones, who is the women's resident director and a student in the university's graduate program in counseling. "But I had the best time. I really did not understand the impact of this trip until I experienced it." For more than a quarter-century, Lindsey Wilson's residence life staff members have traveled to New York to volunteer at God's Love We Deliver, a 41-year-old nonprofit organization that delivers meals to people with severe illnesses. During this year's spring break, March 2-6, 2026, twelve residence life staff members were joined by Dean of Students Chris Schmidt and Assistant Dean of Students Abe Cross. In addition to serving with God's Love We Deliver, the residence life group toured the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and took in some of the sights of the Big Apple. Lisa Hutchison is home after ten days in Dubai We are thankful to report that stranded traveler Lisa Hutchison is home after getting out of Dubai and many, many hours of air travel. She reports on her Facebook journal that after 14 hours flying on "the largest passenger plane in the world, A 380," with about 900+ others, she landed on US soil this morning and was later able to fly the remaining six and a half hours from LA to New York. Our prayers can now go to the Hardin County, KY family who lost a son in the first ten days of the war, and to the many who are serving from here. Letter: Claims about candidate plans are incorrect By Gale Cowan Republican Candidate for Adair County Judge Executive It has come to my attention that people are claiming that if I am once again elected to be Adair County's Judge Executive that I plan to get rid of some current department heads and other employees. That is NOT THE CASE! As long as employees are doing what they are supposed to be doing, doing their job to the best of their ability and conducting themselves professionally, I have no reason to get rid of anyone. This has been a clean race so far. I hope it can stay that way. Click here to share, print, or bookmark this article. 2026-03-10 21:48:14 | Comments | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Basketball: Indians fall to Trojans in 5th Region semifinal By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Monday, March 9, 2026 the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team fell to the North Hardin Trojans 68-56 in the semifinals of the 5th Region tournament. This game was a rematch of last year's 5th Region final and of a regular season meeting that happened back on February 16, 2026. Unlike last year, the Tribe was overcome by the Trojans and fell by double digits. Dawson Gilbert was the heart and soul for the Adair County offense in this one, leading the way with 28 points, followed by Landon Blakey with 17, and Tylin George with 10. Blakey led the way in rebounds with 11, followed by George with nine, and Gilbert with seven. The team was held to just 25% from the floor and 24% from three point range, but managed 65% from the charity stripe. This loss was certainly not where the Indians wanted the season to end, but the team showed impressive fight to reach this point. They could have stopped pushing after a late season slide, but didn't and instead reached the region semifinal. That is certainly worth celebrating. LWU Nursing students study profession's origins in London By Duane Bonifer A group of Lindsey Wilson University nursing students and faculty members learned about the origins of their profession during spring break. The 10 students and four faculty members spent March 2-8, 2026, in London and Paris, where they paid tribute to their profession's founder and learned about medical procedures dating back two centuries as part of a special study-abroad program. The trip, which was funded in part by a university grant, helped the nursing students put their profession in perspective and prepare for their entry into it, which most of them will begin later this year. Lt. Gov. Coleman releases new report on women's health From JT Henderson Frankfort, KY - On March 9, 2026, Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman joined the Kentucky Commission on Women (KCW) and officials from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) to release a new report on the status of women's health in Kentucky. "As we celebrate Women's History Month, there is no better time to assess the status of women's health in Kentucky," said Lt. Gov. Coleman. "As someone whose life was saved by early detection through screenings, we should celebrate the advances that have been made for women's health while also admitting there are severe deficits and far too many women cannot access the care they need and deserve. This work becomes more important as our state faces devastating cuts to Medicaid that will severely harm women's health in the commonwealth." The report was developed in partnership with the Division of Women's Health at CHFS and is a collection of public health data indicators related to Kentucky women, such as rates of insurance coverage, chronic disease prevalence, cancer mortality rates, mental health data, domestic violence rates, perinatal and maternal health indicators, and data related to the well-being of high school girls. Bonner Scholars forge strong connections with Florida groups By Duane Bonifer If you want to see the benefits of a long-term relationship, follow members of the Lindsey Wilson University Bonner Scholar Program the next time they travel to St. Augustine, Florida. Every March, the Lindsey Wilson service-leadership group takes an alternative spring break trip to the northeast Florida community where its members volunteer their time with three local nonprofit groups. It's an annual service trip that has taken place every year since 2011, except in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's trip -- which took place during the week of March 2-6, 2026, during Lindsey Wilson's spring break -- was the first the Bonner Scholar Program made as members of Lindsey Wilson University, and it included work with three long-standing nonprofit partners: St. Johns Housing Partnership, St. Johns County Conservation and the St. Augustine Lighthouse. During their week in the Florida community, 20 members of the Lindsey Wilson Bonner Scholars Program helped clean up a house and its grounds, installed signs, performed other routine maintenance jobs and cleaned up beaches along the Atlantic Ocean.
